Rubber Manufacturing Blog / Business / New EU personal data compliance requirements
Posted:  23 Jan 2018 16:48
We at Ice Miller have been warning our clients that any business that collects personal data of EU residents must comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that comes into force in May 2018. The GDPR provides sweeping changes to privacy requirements in the EU and has teeth behind it with fines that can reach 4% of global revenue. If a company has a brick and mortar operation in the EU, any employees in the EU, ships product to EU customers, or even interacts with customers in the EU through United States operations only (e.g. e-commerce), this regulation applies to them and, in almost all cases, businesses are not prepared to comply with it.

We are doing work for many of our clients right now to realign their privacy program to meet these requirements and ensure compliance when the requirements become effective in May.  If we can be of assistance in preparing such privacy programs, ensuring compliance with the GDPR or just generally understanding what this all means, we’d be happy to help.  Please contact Joe Keglewitsch at Ice Miller (614-462-2279; Josef.Keglewitsch@icemiller.com).
